Importing contacts is a simple four stage process.   The first stage is to upload your text file and choose the file type.  The upload will accept text files with the extension .csv or .txt and the fields in your file can be seperated by commas, tabs, semi-colons, colons or pipes.   The most common type of file will be a CSV file and is the one most likely used when exporting data from Microsoft Excel.

After you have selected the file and type and clicked Continue, the system will upload your file and you will move on to the second stage of the process.   The first row from you file will be read in and you will be asked to match the columns in your file up to the fields in the contact database for any fields you want to import/update.

Important Note:  To avoid add blank contacts to your database, Suite26 requires EITHER First Name, Last Name or Email Address to be completed for a contact at all times.  Please bare this in mind when importing/updating contacts.  If a file you are importing would cause a contact to have all three of these fields blank it will be marked as invalid and the row will not be added/updated.

You only need to match up the fields you wish to import or update.   When you have completed this stage click Continue to move on to the third stage where you will be given a number options for your process.

Please read all of the options carefully and set them as appropriate for your import.

If you are using the import to update your contacts database it is very import you include either the E-Mail Address or Contact ID in your file and then tell the import which of those two fields you wish to use to do the duplicate check on.

Once your options have been set, click Continue and your import will begin.

If you wish to abort the import click the Abort link.  Any rows updated/inserted before you aborted cannot be undone.

When you import completes you will have the option to view any errors which ocurred during the import.
